Bruce Fummey's Biography

Bruce Fummey is the Scottish YouTuber and stand-up comic behind the Scotland History Tours YouTube channel.

He was born and raised in Perth, studied physics in Paisley and after a career as a physics teacher in Brechin and Falkirk, training consultant with Scottish Amicable in Stirling, and stint as a financial adviser at the age of 40, and back in Perthshire, he finally got a proper job when he started doing stand-up comedy.

Each year at Edinburgh Fringe he’d perform a new show about some different aspect of Scottish history, till in 2018 he thought, why don’t I take people to the places and show them. Since then he’s been a tour guide by day and a stand-up comic by night. It’s incredible to do the best job in the world and do the second best as a job on the side.

When COVID put a stop to both jobs, Bruce started making videos to tell Scotland’s stories remotely. Thus was born a YouTube channel that’s grown to 200,000 subscribers. Bruce is in Canada in 2024 performing his live show Stories of Scotland and making videos for his channel Scotland History Tours about the Scots who made Canada.

He says: ‘Since starting the YouTube channel I’ve had the good fortune to do many things, few of which I could never have dreamed of growing up in Perth, and none of which I deserve. The honour to be involved in Northumberland Highland Games is just one of them.
